Story

A few years ago, I decided I needed to quit smoking.  Not only was it costing too much, it was also unhealthy.  So I asked my friends to pray for me, I went to the doctor to get prescription help and then I talked to the Lord.  I asked for the help to overcome this addiction and to be done with any cravings for them in the future.  I wrote this song asking Christ to be what I crave instead of cigarettes.  I am happy to say that to this day, I have not had the slightest craving to smoke.

Story

The world is a broken, sinful place.  People are continually being led astray by what man tells them is right and wrong.  Even Christians are often taken from the narrow path under the guise of being "loving" or "accepting".  We are called to uphold Gods law and this often conflicts with mans.  This song is an anthem to strengthen the hearts of Bible believers.  Stand tall and fight for God because he knows what is best for us.  True love means being honest with others who may be going astray, even when it may be uncomfortable.

Lyrics

Scripture:  Romans 12:2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is —his good, pleasing and perfect will.

Story

Have you ever asked God to forgive you for something?  Have you ever asked Him to forgive the same thing?  Over and over again?  Sometimes we believe that we have done something so terrible, that God could not possibly forgive us.  But think about this for a minute.  If Jesus died on the cross for your sins and you deny that forgiveness, then you are essentially saying that His sacrifice was a waste.  Ask sincerely for forgiveness, make a pledge to avoid doing it again, and then trust in the Word of God and His love.  Go live - He has work for you to do.

Lyrics

Scripture: John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

Women struggle with self esteem.  We're not pretty enough, smart enough, thin enough, etc...  We see the women on TV and in magazines and assume that is what we are supposed to be like.  We listen to the media tell us we are never good enough.  We are beings created by our heavenly Father.  We were created in His image.  We are beautiful children of God.  If more people would read their Bibles and engage in a relationship with Jesus, more people would understand that their worth goes so much deeper that anything a movie or magazine can touch.

Lyrics

Scripture: Genesis 1:27  So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.

God never promised us easy lives.  We will have troubles and sorrows.  If we trust in the Lord to give us the strength to get through and the wisdom to see what wonderful things He can do with our messes, we will be more likely to see beauty in the aftermath.

Lyrics

Scripture: Proverbs 3:5  Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

Story

Whether you have known God all your life or came to know Him later in life, there is a moment when you "get it".  You understand that God is more than some far off entity that is too big to know you; that Jesus knew you before you were ever even born and that the Holy Spirit resides in you.  It's an amazing moment when you come to realize these things.  This song is about that moment and how your life is changed once you have that knowledge.

Story

This is the first Christian song I ever wrote.  It was born from my prayers at that time and still holds true in many respects.  If I had to guess, I'd say it most likely sounds like a lot of people's prayers; asking for help and comfort. It also asks for the peace to be still and know that God has it under control.

Lyrics

Scripture: Matthew 6:9-13  This, then, is how you should pray: “‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, Your kingdom come, Your will be done,  on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread.  And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.  And lead us not into temptation,  but deliver us from the evil one.

Abortion is so sad.  The loss of a child created by God and the loss and guilt that remains with the parents.  It is a mistake to think that there is only one victim in this choice.

Lyrics

Scripture: Psalm 139:13-14   For you created my inmost being;  you knit me together in my mother’s womb.  I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful,  I know that full well.

In 2009 the Gideons International held their annual Pastor Appreciation dinner in Rockford IL.  I was asked to perform and wrote this song as a thank you to not only the pastors that attended, but for all of the pastors who help each of us to learn and grow in our faith.  They are there to welcome us into the family of God.  They are there when we first partake of the body and the blood.  They bind us together in a cord of three strands with our spouse and God and they are there when we return home to God after our bodily death.  Our spiritual leaders are so important in our lives and I am grateful for their sacrifice and commitment.

Lyrics

Scripture: 1 Timothy 4:13-16  Until I come, devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to preaching and to teaching.  Do not neglect your gift, which was given you through prophecy when the body of elders laid their hands on you.  Be diligent in these matters; give yourself wholly to them, so that everyone may see your progress.  Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers.

Story

I admit it.  I can be a control freak.  As with all control freaks, I often see that I can't control everything, no matter how hard I try.  When things start spinning out of control, it's best to take a breath and accept that I am just a speck in the cosmos.  If God wants it to be the way I want it to be, it will happen.  If not, there's not a thing I can do about it.  That's when I remember that God wants good things for me and I can relax and let go.

Lyrics

Scripture: Romans 12:3  For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the measure of faith God has given you.
